Corman Statement on Governor's Suit Against NCAA Sanctions

Bellefonte - Senator Jake Corman (R-34th District) released the following statement regarding the Governor' lawsuit dealing with NCAA sanctions on Penn State University.

Today, I commend Governor Corbett for taking the initial steps towards relieving the Penn State Community of the brunt the NCAA has placed on them through unprecedented sanctions.  I believe the Governor’s suit does have standing as I can see firsthand the economic and community impact the sanctions have had.  As the Governor stated today, the lawsuit is not about whether Penn State should be sanctioned but whether the NCAA can sanction Penn State University in this situation.  As I have stated from the beginning, due process provides the integrity needed to ensure all responsible parties are held accountable.  The NCAA’s rush to judgment, evident in their endorsement of the incomplete Freeh report as all the information needed, undermines our societal and legal need for the essential due process.

Senator Corman serves as Chairman of the Senator Appropriations Committee, is a Penn State alumnus and represents the State College area as part of the 34th Senatorial District.  Last week, Senator Corman announced legislation aimed at keeping the $60 million NCAA fine levied on PSU in the Commonwealth to be used for Commonwealth child protection programs.
